Meeting with the Prime-Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic
The Business Ombudsman, Mr. Robin Ord-Smith held a meeting with the Prime-Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Boronov K. The Business Ombudsman briefed the Prime-Minister on the trends of the first 6 months of BOI operation. Despite the pandemic and stage of emergency BOI continued its operation remotely, providing consultations to the business representatives, receiving and investigating complaints from entrepreneurs, making recommendations to the Government. During the course of the constructive dialogue, the parties discussed BOI mandate, finalisation and pass of the Business Ombudsman Law. The Business Ombudsman thanked the Government for cooperation and engagement in allowing BOI to investigate complaints fairly and independently. He also raised his concerns, that on the number of occasions state bodies appear less willing to cooperate or abide by Government Decree #647. The Business Ombudsman shared challenges during the course of investigations that make a proper investigation of complaints more difficult - refusal to provide some information requested from the state bodies, failure to comply with the deadlines, ignoring or evading the questions raised in the request. The Business Ombudsman supported the idea of monthly meetings proposed by the Prime-Minister on the Investment Council Meeting earlier that day and thanked the head of the Government for the engagement, clear public support, and cooperation in protecting entrepreneurs’ rights and improving the business environment in the country
